Unlike other SAP Business Applications such as Project Systems, Finance and Funds Management, SAP Procurement processes are broadly categorized into two verticals of industry or sector. One is Commercial Sector and other is Public Sector.

The distinctive characteristic of Public Sector processes is ‘availability of funds’ for any commercial activity. That’s why SAP has incorporated “Funds Management’ functionality into SAP Public Sector.

Coming to Procurement Processes in Public Sector, there are two distinctive processes in procurement operations.

	Availability of Funds.
	Approval workflow process.

These are very high level observations, otherwise the procurement and sourcing like contract management process especially in Federal Agencies are totally different and very complex. To successfully meet the requirements, SAP has developed a separate Application called Procurement for Public Sector (PPS).

SAP PPS is not an independent Application but an add-on. It should be implemented and bolted to SAP SRM on the front and SAP ECC at the back.

SAP PPS will ensure that expectations of PS clients are met with satisfaction.
